Flamingo

Flamingos are one of the most interesting types of animals in the world. There are six known species of them out there. They are different from many other types of birds because of the length of their legs. They aren’t often seen flying but they certainly can just like other birds. It was long debated though if they should be classified as storks or ducks. Finally, it was decided that they should have their own classification.

They are classifiy into Aves Class , and their scientific name are Phoenicopterus . In average they have height 100 - 150 cm . They weight are 2 – 4 kg , they’re one reason that they have speed 50 km/h . Beside that ,flamingos are often seen on the banks of the lake standing on one leg. Flamingos are actually sleeping when it is on one leg but the strange thing is, that only half of the flamingo is actually asleep - the half that contains the leg still standing remains active .

Right now none of the species of Flamingos are considered to be endangered. Yet many researchers find that what takes place in our environment now could reduce their numbers significantly in the not so distant future. It is often hard to get a good count of Flamingos due to their diverse distribution. The fact that they fly off to new habitats too can mean they aren’t counted at all or that the same ones get counted several times.

The Government must to do more to protect endangered species, amid warnings land clearing and mining are threatening animal’s habitats. Beside that , Reducing threats to wildlife that can lead to their endangerment and extinction, such as loss of habitat, contamination of water and spread of invasive species.

Flamingos use their large, oddly shaped beaks to filter shrimp out of the water. The flamingo uses it's strangely shaped upside-down beak to separate mud and food in the water. The mouth of the flamingo is covered in little hairs called lamellae which assist in the filtering of water and the flamingo also has a rough tongue which the flamingo also uses to help it to filter food out of the water.

Although flamingos only nest once a year, flamingo colonies are known to breed at any time of the year. A flamingo reaches sexual maturity (which means the flamingo is able to breed) when the flamingo is between 3 and 6 years old. Flamingos build their nests out of mud, stones and feathers and do so about 6 weeks before they lay their eggs. Flamingos tend to lay just one egg that hatches after a 30 day incubation period. Both the mother flamingo and the father flamingo are known to help to raise the flamingo chick.

The possible future of flamingos are depend on the balance of ecosystem . If the ecosystem isn’t balance it can be impact to all organisms in the world especially for flamingos . Because of that , that we must protect and keep the world safely and think the best solution how to keep the balance of ecosystem .
